KING FOOTBALL RETURNS!

March 10, 2008 by lloydbraun

As a Vol fan, I have enjoyed the basketball season. It has been “cute”. A pleasant diversion from an otherwise bland and dreary winter. Is it an obsession? No. Do I analyze each game days ahead of time? No. Does my world revolve around it? No. Would I miss my sister’s wedding just to watch the game? Probably not.

In other words, it sure as hell ain’t college football.

Spring practice begins this week. While most Vol fans have their eyes on some sort of goofy NCAA tournament run, I am firmly planted in the rich and fertile soils of the college football plantation. I scoff at those who suggest that Tennessee is “now a basketball school”. Oh really? Is Tennessee basketball a way of life? No. Is Tennessee basketball the reason you bleed orange? No, and if you say yes you are a damn liar unless you are about three years old. So don’t give me that bullshit.

This should be one hell of a year in the SEC. The media will probably pick Tennessee third in the East this year behind UGA and Florida respectively. Regardless, this should be an extremely competitive division, probably the most competitive in a long time amongst the three legitimate contenders. Here are my random thoughts on the big three in the East.
UGA – The fans in Athens are still crying foul for some reason over some perceived slight by the national media. This has always baffled me. How can you not win your own division and earn a place in the BCS title game? Not only did you fail to win the East, but the team that did win the East made a complete mockery of you. The idea that you had any sort of place in the BCS Championship game whatsoever is just absurd. I cannot get past how slow the Dawgs looked in Knoxville. Did somebody roofy their orange juice?

Florida – I admit it. I fear the Gators in football. They laugh at the Vols. Every other year we will play a better game only to let them steal a win in the end. The rest of the time we just look like a team of retards. 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2004…………..NOT the norm. The Gators SHOULD win the East in my opinion.

Tennessee – I am very excited about this team. For one thing, expectations will be reasonably low. Entirely new offensive coaching staff, new QB, best defender to the NFL…..The Vols should be flying under the radar. But don’t be fooled………The Big Orange is LOADED on the O-Line and at running back. And the secondary will be the most athletic in Tennessee history by the time they are finished. Very young, but very gifted.

Conservative Talking Heads Try Too Hard

April 13, 2007 by lloydbraun

Even worse than Imus and his pathetic apology, are the conservative commentators who demanded Imus to be fired. Apparently this was a good opportunity for them to appear sensitive to racial issues after years of being called racists and bigots. I hope the listening public remembers this the last time Mike Gallagher and Elizabeth Hasslebeck bemoan our politically correct society.

Stop Apologizing!

I am tired of apologies. Say what you say and then stand by your statements. If you think some college basketball players look like “nappy-headed hos”, then say so and stand by it. Nothing was more pathetic than watching Don Imus apologize to Al Sharpton. Imus didn’t lose my respect for his comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. He lost my respect for bowing down and kissing the feet of a race-baiting con artist like Sharpton.
